Turism Dept.
A Bahamas cruise is equivalent to fun, fun, fun. With average temperatures of 25 degrees all year round this is the perfect destination for any cruise lover. When cruising through the 700 islands and more than 2,000 cays that form the Bahamas, there are plenty of options to choose from regarding dates, ships and days at sea.
One of the most visited islands in the Bahamas and home to the capital, Nassau is the island of New Providence. The second most popular tourist destination in the Bahamas, with its pearly white beaches and luxurious hotels, is the Island of Grand Bahama. This island is also known for having the oldest underwater cave systems in the world, situated at the Lucayan National Park. On the other hand, Long Island, being one of the most scenic islands in the Bahamas, is a must stop for all cruise passengers looking for a more quiet vacation.
There are hundreds of different cruise packages available. With such a variety of destinations to visit, a cruise to the Bahamas is the best opportunity to visit and experience a number of them in a short period of time. There are cruises available to suit practically anyone. There are short cruises which last a couple of days, or much longer cruises which can last up to two weeks and sometimes more.
Short cruises ranging from three to seven nights offer quite an affordable option for first time cruise travellers. These cruises usually depart from Miami whilst the longer ones, seven nights plus, tend to depart from Baltimore, Boston or New York. Going on a short cruise is a popular option for many people. You can take a Carnival or Disney cruise which is very popular. These are around all year long, but only travel to certain regions.
The most popular months to cruise in the Bahamas are December and April. If you are looking for cheaper deals, the off peak months (during summer and autumn) are the way to go. However, take in consideration that hurricane season runs from June to November with rain and strong winds to be expected.
